One of Nissan's global visions is "To enrich people's live by improving the quality of life in the communities in which Nissan operates." In Canada, this vision has translated into support in three main areas:

To make this vision a reality, the Nissan Canada Foundation strives to establish lasting partnerships, ensuring its efforts lead to long-term tangible differences in people's lives.

With Habitat for Humanity, Nissan supports the communities where its customers, dealers and employees live. Nissan offers to all employees allotted paid days to volunteer in the community in support of the organization of their choice. Each year, approximately 200 employees roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty for a good cause. As Habitat volunteers, Nissan's employees engage directly in addressing local needs for affordable housing by making personal commitments of their time and effort on Habitat home builds.

Nissan Canada employees have been volunteering for 2 years in a-row on the Crew-Goetz Landing Build, the most ambitious Habitat for Humanity project in Habitat Halton-Mississauga's 20-year history, ensuring 18 families have a safe and decent place to call their own.

In addition, as part of our ongoing partnership with Habitat for Humanity Canada, the Nissan Canada Foundation recently awarded a $60,000 grant to Habitat Vancouver Island North (VIN) used to acquire a brand-new Nissan TITAN full-size pickup truck. The Nissan TITAN will be replacing a 22-year-old vehicle used by Habitat VIN that had over 850,000 kms, and will contribute to the Foundation's ongoing efforts of building safe and affordable homes for deserving families.

"Having a permanent home allows a family to realize stability and a sense of community," said Steve Milette, president of Nissan Canada Inc. "Our relationship with Habitat for Humanity is at the center of our core values, not only as a corporate citizen, but as neighbours in the communities in which we live, work and serve."

Since the inception of the Nissan Canada Foundation's partnership with Habitat for Humanity Canada in 2008, more than 1,400 Nissan Canada dealership and head office employees have spent over 9,000 hours volunteering, contributing to 50 home builds from Halifax to Vancouver. To date, the Nissan Canada Foundation's contribution of donations and volunteer hours towards Habitat for Humanity Canada has exceeded $1 million, an important milestone for Nissan Canada. In addition to vehicle donation to Habitat for Humanity affiliates, the Nissan Canada Foundation is also the Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga title home sponsor.
