Nissan Canada Inc. (NCI) will mark the 15th anniversary of the Nissan Canada Foundation with a donation of 51 vehicles to charitable partners across the country.

Globally, Nissan sold a total of 936,000 vehicles in the April-to-June period, up 6.9% compared to same period in 2007. In North America, sales were 330,000 units, up 1.9%. Sales in the United States were 253,000 units, down 1.5% in a market which was down by 12.0%; Nissan’s market share in the U.S. grew by 0.7 percentage points to 6.6%. In Japan, sales were 148,000 units, down by 2.2%. European sales remained flat at 156,000 units. Growth continues to derive from the General Overseas Markets with sales up by 23.6% to 302,000 units.

“The Foundation has a long-standing history of support for seniors in our communities across Canada,” said Mark Grimm, President, Nissan Canada Inc. “We are pleased to help make a difference for our partners at a local level with this donation. Each day, these vehicles help the organizations we partner with reach out to at-risk seniors who can often feel isolated in their communities.”

In Ontario, 25 cars have been donated. Charitable partners in British Columbia received a donation of seven vehicles. Alberta also received seven cars while Quebec organizations received nine vehicles from the Foundation. Each donation is made possible through generous support and partnership from Nissan dealer partners across the country.

“These groups provide an important range of services to our neighbours in the community, and have unique vehicle needs” added Grimm. “We are pleased to be able to offer a variety of vehicle options to each of our agency partners that help them best meet the needs of the community.”

Groups like Meals on Wheels across Canada, Health and Home Care B.C. and the Canadian Red Cross are just some of the beneficiaries of the donation. These groups facilitate a wide range of programs from meal delivery to transportation for medical appointments.

“We’re very grateful to the Nissan Canada Foundation for this ongoing support,” said Inge Schamborzki, R.N., D.Ed., Executive Director, Health and Home Care Society of B.C. “The Murano is ideal for our organization. It really allows us to do a lot of good for a lot of people.”

2008 marks the 15th anniversary of the Nissan Canada Foundation. In commemoration, the Foundation recognizes the opportunity to celebrate Canadian seniors for their contributions to Canada's social and economic fabric.
