Nissan's first entry into the full-size pickup market, the new 2004 Nissan Titan King Cab, enters its first full model year offering bold styling and a new level of innovation including rear King Cab doors that open nearly 180 degrees for virtually unlimited interior access.

Other highly acclaimed innovations include Titan King Cab's available High Utility Bed™ with the industry's first factory-applied spray-in bed liner, a new Utili-track™ tie-down system that provides superb cargo hauling flexibility and an integrated, lockable side storage compartment.

“The first reviewers, especially those who really understand the needs of full-size pickup owners, have had nothing but praise for the Titan's innovative pickup bed,” says Ian Forsyth, Nissan Canada Inc.'s director of marketing. “They've also been very complimentary about the Titan's horsepower, torque, towing ability and the innovations in both the Crew and King cabs.”

Built on an entirely new pickup platform, Titan's powertrain includes a new 305-horsepower Nissan Endurance 5.6-litre DOHC V8 with a torque rating of 379 ft-lbs and a standard five-speed automatic transmission. Titan King Cab SE 4x2 is rated to tow up to 4,309 kilograms (9,500 pounds), as much as some three-quarter-ton pickups.

Titan King Cab is available in four models, two with two-wheel drive (XE 4x2, SE 4x2) and two with four-wheel drive (SE 4x4 and LE 4x4).

Titan, which went on sale across Canada in late 2003, is assembled at Nissan's new $1.43 billion (U.S.) manufacturing facility in Canton, Miss. Its Nissan Endurance V8 is assembled on an all-new line at Nissan's advanced engine production facility in Decherd, Tenn.

Forsyth says the Titan name was chosen to reflect the importance Nissan places on the full-size pickup's size and power. But, he adds, in an extensive research program into truck usage and owner desires, innovation emerged as the primary need beyond size and power.

Truck buyers will find innovation aplenty in Titan King Cab's spacious passenger cabin. A true breakthrough design, the first-in-class Wide-Open™ rear doors that swing open nearly 180 degrees, provide unprecedented access to the rear seats.

Also included among Titan King Cab's many standard and available interior features are power-adjustable front seats with available driver's seat memory system, heated front seats and flip-up 60/40 rear-seat cushions for added cargo space and flexibility. There are grocery hooks on the bottom of the seat cushions, and the rear floor was designed nearly flat for maximum cargo utility.

The King Cab's rear compartment offers ample rear storage, including door storage bins and rear door bottle holders in the armrests and optional power front windows - with one-touch up and down function.

The exceptionally well-equipped Titan King Cab XE is equipped with a standard split front bench seat (40/20/40 split) with a centre seat fold-down armrest storage bin and split bench rear seat (60/40 split) with three-point seat belts for all positions.

Titan King Cab SE models include front captains' chairs, five-spoke 18-inch alloy wheels and P265/70R18 tires and chrome steel centre bumper, while King Cab LE adds six-spoke 18-inch alloy wheels, standard high-utility bed, tubular-style running boards, leather-appointed seating, Rockford Fosgate™-powered audio system with 8 speakers and more.

For 4x4 models, Titan adapts an advanced shift-on-the-fly four-wheel drive system with 2WD/4H/4LO modes and an electronically controlled part-time transfer case.

Titan's responsive handling is a product of its all-steel double-wishbone front suspension and rigid-leaf (dual-rate) rear suspension with shackles mounted along the frame sides to eliminate below-frame obstacles. Titan XE 4x2 is equipped with 7.5x17 painted steel wheels and 245/75R17 tires, while SE models are fitted with 8.0x18 aluminum-alloy wheels and 265/70R18 tires.

Power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering is standard on all Titan King Cabs, along with four-wheel disc brakes with Bosch Anti-lock Braking System (ABS).

Standard comfort and convenience features include air conditioning, cruise control, AM/FM/CD, passenger vanity mirror, intermittent wipers and a removable and lockable tailgate.

Titan includes a long list of safety equipment, including available front-seat side-impact and curtain supplemental air bags (standard on LE, included in Off Road package). They help provide side-impact and rollover protection for outboard passengers (the first available on a full-size pickup).

Standard safety features on the 2004 Titan include Nissan's Advanced Air Bag System (AABS) with dual-stage front supplemental air bags with seatbelt sensors and a front passenger occupant classification sensor, front seatbelts with adjustable upper anchors, pretensioners and load limiters, three-point rear passenger seat belts and LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) child seat anchor system.

Additional safety features include Zone Body construction with front and rear crumple zones, an energy absorbing steering column, hood buckling creases with safety stops, knee bolsters and special body-side reinforcements and a shift-interlock system.

There are two option packages available for Titan King Cab SE. One is the Off Road package that adds off-road-style Rancho™ performance gas shock absorbers, large all-terrain tires, fog lights and lower radiator, and transfer case skid plates, 17-inch brushed aluminum-alloy wheels and 285/70R17 BFGoodrich A/T tires and the safety items listed above.

The other is the Versatility package that includes the High Utility Bed ™ and all its features, including the spray-in bedliner, Utili-Trac Channel System, a bed-mounted 12-volt power outlet and an innovative bedside storage compartment located behind the driver's-side rear wheel and is designed to hold common truck items such as work gloves, chains, rope, road flares, first-aid kit or a hitch ball.

The Versatilty package (standard on LE) also includes a Rockford Fosgate audio system with eight speakers and six-disc CD changer, steering wheel audio controls, eight-way power adjustable driver's seat, auto-dimming rearview mirror with outside temperature display and power adjustable pedals.
