2001 Nissan Xterra

Nissan's popular Xterra sport utility vehicle (SUV) will be offered in two models for 2001, a no-frills, entry-level XE model and an overtly sporty, well-equipped SE model.

Body

  • 4-door, 5-seat sport-utility vehicle was all new last year
  • Built on the Frontier 4x4's 264.92 cm (104.3-inch) wheelbase
  • Body is mounted on a ladder-frame similar to Frontier's and it is longer, wider and taller than vehicles such as the Jeep Cherokee and Toyota RAV4

Engine and Driveline

  • 3.3-litre SOHC 12-valve V6, 170 hp @ 4,800 rpm, 200 ft-lbs torque @ 2,800 rpm
  • 4-wheel-drive and a 2-speed transfer case
  • 5-speed manual transmission standard on XE; electronically controlled 4-speed automatic standard on SE, optional on XE
  • Limited-slip rear differential standard

Suspension, Steering and Braking

  • Double wishbone front suspension with stabilizer bar; solid axle rear with leaf springs, stabilizer bar
  • Power-assisted rack and pinion steering
  • Front power-assisted discs, rear power-assisted drums, standard 4-wheel ABS

  • Dual "second generation" airbags
  • Crumple zones
  • 3-point ALR/ELR seat belt system, front seat belt pretensioners with load limiters
