The bold new 2001 Nissan Frontier shakes up the status quo in the compact pickup class with the first available factory-installed supercharged engine and innovative, industrial-look exterior styling. Built on the rugged, current-generation Frontier platform, the 2001 model lineup is enhanced with the addition of new supercharged V6 models (designated SC). The 2001 Frontier goes on sale in early August, with supercharged models available in November. Highlights of the 2001 Nissan Frontier compact truck include:
Body
- Available in a choice of King Cab or 4-door Crew Cab
- New front fascia, hood, fenders, bumpers, grille, headlights, fog lights, tailgate and badging
- Fender flares added to 4x2 models as standard; fender flares enlarged on 4x4 models
Engine and Driveline
- A supercharged 3.3-litre SOHC V6 engine producing an estimated 210 horsepower and 245 ft-lbs of torque (available on SC-V6 Crew Cabs)
- A 3.3-litre SOHC V6 engine producing 170 horsepower and 200 ft-lbs of torque at a low 2,800 rpm (available on 4x2 XE-V6 and SE-V6 models and 4x4 XE-V6 and SE-V6 models
- A 2.4-litre I4 engine producing 143 horsepower (the most in class - available on XE King Cab 4x2 models)
- 4-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission available on I4 4x2 and all V6 models
- Available limited-slip differential - standard on all V6 and supercharged V6 models
Suspension, Steering and Braking
- Double wishbone front/dual leaf-spring rear suspension, new wheels and tires
- Standard rear Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) , 4-wheel ABS on V6 models
- Standard power-assisted recirculating ball-type steering

- New instrument panel cover, gauges, new steering wheel, new interior fabrics and colours
- New audio system lineup ( SE-V6 and SC-V6 models feature an in-dash 6-disc CD changer with steering wheel audio controls
- New optional leather interior on SC-V6 models with sports car style red-on-charcoal stitching

- Rear glass defroster on Crew Cab models
- Standard tailgate lock added to all models
- Standard dual supplemental front air bags, air bag on/off switch on King Cab
