With the introduction of the 2004 Nissan Pathfinder ‘Chinook,' Nissan Canada Inc. continues its tradition of offering a uniquely Canadian limited-edition Pathfinder with exclusive equipment and graphics.

The 2004 Pathfinder Chinook, the latest in a line of special edition versions of the Pathfinder SUV that includes the Pathfinder Klondike and last year's Pathfinder Chilkoot, models named after the warm winds that blow across the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains, often pleasantly affecting Alberta winters.

The Chinook has all the special equipment of the 2003 Chilkoot edition and adds additional convenience enhancements including a power sliding glass sunroof and colour-keyed front and rear fender flares, running boards, heated power mirror, outside temperature gauge, RKE/anti-theft system, -- all at the same price as the '03 Chilkoot model.

“We are delighted to be able to hold the price line while adding dramatically to the value of our latest ‘Canadian-only' limited-edition Pathfinder Chinook,” said Ian Forsyth, Nissan Canada marketing manager.

He noted that the volume selling “All-Mode” automatic transmission model is priced at $36,200, the same as last year. He said the pricing strategy improves Pathfinder's already strong price/value advantage over similarly equipped sport utility vehicles from other manufacturers.

As well as its long list of standard equipment, the mid-size 2004 Pathfinder Chinook features a Chinook logo on its liftgate, plus a numbered edition Chinook plaque mounted inside on the overhead compass console.

Like all Pathfinders, the 2004 Pathfinder Chinook is powered by a 240-horsepower 3.5-litre V6 designed and tuned specifically for SUV applications. The DOHC 24-valve VQ-series engine produces 265 ft-lbs of low-end torque for both on- and off-road excursions.

A five-speed manual transmission is standard in the Pathfinder Chinook while a four-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with overdrive is optional.

All Pathfinders are equipped with a proven five-link rear suspension system with coil springs and stabilizer bar and an optimized shock absorber layout for ride and handling control. The front suspension features independent struts with coil springs.

Pathfinder's unique MonoFrame construction provides a smooth, comfortable on-road ride while offering outstanding off-road capabilities. The MonoFrame design combines the body, floor and frame into a single, rigid structure (as opposed to separate pieces bolted together), reducing stress throughout the body and minimizing squeaks and rattles.

All Pathfinders also feature standard four-wheel/four-sensor/three-channel “All-Terrain” Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), with Nissan's unique G-sensor system, which “reads” the driving surface and adjusts braking control accordingly.

Standard Pathfinder safety equipment includes dual-stage front supplemental airbags with seatbelt sensors, front seatbelts with pretensioners and load limiters and adjustable upper anchors, pipe-style steel side-door guard beams, front and rear crumple zones, an energy-absorbing steering column and LATCH, a child seat anchorage system (Lower Anchors and Tether for Children).

Luxury features include a Bose Ò audio system with AM/FM/cassette/six-disc in-dash CD changer and steering wheel audio controls, eight-way adjustable driver/four-way adjustable front passenger and a 60/40 split fold-down rear seatback.
